Education, Awareness, Attitude and Stigma
MYAA – Malewa Youth AIDS Awareness
MYAA was formed in April 2011 as a vehicle to reach school aged children with a engaging message on HIV/AIDS awareness, attitude and stigma.
MYAA is a group of 15 young people that live in KCC slum that we trained through a local NGO, K-NOTE as peer educators on topics of : HIV/AIDS,drugs & alcohol, life skills, the body, health & hygiene and keeping safe.
The big idea behind the group is to tackle stigma and to de mystify issues relating to HIV/AIDS, along with giving young people relevant information, support and mentors.
To date MYAA have reached 1 primary school, Marula Primary School, for a whole school term through weekly afternoon sessions covering a wide range of topics and discussions.

Sanitation Days.
Sanitation Days are a targeted day to educate young girls on their body and cycles as well as freely distributing the much needed sanitary pads. This issue alone is one of the most challenging issues facing a girls education in Kenya, but with information and distribution we aim to decrease the number of school days missed by girls.
As well as this we are educating these same kids, boys and girls, on keeping clean, dental and personal hygiene. With this education we are distributing small bars of soap to help them learn this all practically.
We are running these days once a month so to get involved with resources to help fund this initiative, please get in touch through email.
MYAA Community Resource Centre.
This is our new centre in KCC slums! We established this room in November 2011 as a space for the youth and community to provide recourse’s, education, information for the community. For more photos on the construction and painting click onto our Facebook page.
